WCS is a modern lead/follow swing dance that is defined by its slotted and linear movement, and elastic connection with your partner. It is typically danced to contemporary and classic Pop, R&B, Hip Hop, Funk, and Blues.
While it’s a dance that you do with a partner, you don't need to bring your own partner as dancers typically rotate and switch partners during class and social dancing.
The dance is degendered, which means that we have no traditional role requirements. Your decision to lead or follow is not dictated by your gender, but by your desire. You are free to learn to dance as a leader or follower (and many learn to switch roles).
We are committed to creating a diverse environment where all people are treated equitably. We welcome dancers of all gender, age, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, and ethnicities, race, and national origin.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How do I register for the event?
Please take a moment and RSVP for the event here: https://tinyurl.com/W3PROJECTSWING23
Do I need a partner?
Absolutely not. There will be a mix of singles and couples, and we have students rotate partners in class.
Do I have to rotate/switch partners?
WCS is a social dance, meaning everyone dances with everyone for one song at a time, so you switch partners constantly during the class and on the social dance floor. However, if you have specific concerns, you can stay together if necessary. Please let your instructor know.
I’ve taken WCS classes before, can I still attend?
Absolutely. Whether you’re a beginner wanting to take the class, or a more experienced dancer wanting to support your friends and family, you are welcome to come. Important note: The free Saturday evening First Timers Social Pass is for WCS first timers only. If you are not a first timer (meaning you have previously taken one or more WCS classes), you will need to purchase a weekend, spectator or daily social dance pass to stay for the Saturday night shows and social dancing. Your contribution helps to keep the event running and allows for us to continue to provide free opportunities like this to first timers so that we continue to grow our community.
I’ve taken other dance classes before (i.e., Salsa, 2-Step, etc.), but have not taken WCS. Am I considered a WCS first timer eligible for the First Timers Social Pass?
Absolutely! We consider you a WCS first timer!
What if I have two left feet?
Then this is perfect for you! Everyone has to start somewhere! You will be among many new dancers who feel the same way you do.
What should I wear?
Dress casual, no need to be formal. Many dancers wear warmups, joggers, or yoga pants - including ladies - we tend to wear pants, not skirts. And you’ll want to wear a top you can raise your arms in comfortably. It's a good idea to bring a second shirt to change into just in case you get too sweaty. Bring shoes that are not too bulky or grippy. Smooth, leather or suede bottoms work great. And flats are better than heels. Think Toms, Bobs, dance tennis shoes or boots, swing sandals, etc.
Where is the event located?
The event will take place at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Dallas located at:
300 Reunion Blvd

The event will take place on the first floor of the hotel. When you enter the building look for the Wild Wild Westie signs to the right of the main entrance (or ask an employee to point you in the right direction).
